DISA Selects Scalable Networks to Perform Network Modeling Project for Efficient Spectrum Utilization

Los Angeles, California

Scalable Network Technologies (SNT) today announced that the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Joint Spectrum Center (JSC) has selected SNT to design and evaluate protocols for wireless ad-hoc networks. JSC is the engineering team that ensures effective use of the electromagnetic spectrum for the military departments and combatant commands. The project for which SNT was selected will be conducted over one year.

As the wireless networks that support combat are deployed more broadly, the capacity of these wireless communication systems must increase. To achieve this goal, SNT will use its QualNet network simulation software to test and validate d ynamic spectrum management capabilities that ensure availability and efficient use of spectrum resources. Scientists are studying cross-layer optimization in wireless networks including signal power levels, instantaneous data rates, routing, antenna weighting, link scheduling, and other parameters. Ultimately, the project seeks to develop advanced ad-hoc wireless protocols that intelligently manage the trade-offs between efficient spectrum utilization and QoS.

"SNT is proud to be part of the DISA/JSC program and is well positioned to achieve the goals of this DISA project," stated Frank Tortorelli, Vice President of Business Development for SNT. "The company's QualNet software provides the network modeling environment they need to predict network-wide interference. Additionally, the SNT team has the technical expertise in protocol development to plan for reliable communication to the last 'tactical' mile of combat."
