Scalable Network Technologies (SNT) today announced the planned release of QualNet Developer software version 4.0, forecasted for November 2006. SNT unveiled a "native parallel" version of its network simulator at the MILCOM trade show, demonstrating support for state-of-the-art dual core processors.

QualNet Developer is network simulation software for the design and optimization of next-generation computer networks. A basic QualNet Developer license supports single- and dual-core platforms. Support for additional parallel processors is available as an upgrade.

"What makes this release so groundbreaking is that QualNet is the first natively parallel network simulator on the market," said Dirk Eastman, SNT's Vice President of Sales. "So many of our customers need real time simulation, and QualNet 4.0 with native dual core support is the first step towards that goal. By building network models in QualNet that automatically run on parallel processors, our users are able to take advantage of state of the art computing resources on powerful parallel machines. This means many may be able to model 1000+-node networks in real-time and with great accuracy."

Two other notable additions to QualNet 4.0 include network models for broadband wireless access (IEEE 802.16, also known as WiMAX), and urban propagation models. Other new models include the military radios EPLRS and SINCGARS, OLSRv2, DYMO, OSPFv3, cellular models, pedestrian mobility, an SDF Parser, CTDB 7 and 8 terrain formats, and a new QualNet building format for terrain. Additional new features include a new QualNet 3D Visualizer for rich QT-based network animation, as well as usability and performance improvements in the 2D Java Graphical User Interface.
